#50 Pitching-in
We’re away this weekend, staying in a holiday rental with family to celebrate a milestone birthday. As we were making preparations for the dinner it reminded me of the importance of pitching-in during these sorts of communal events.
Sometimes the responsibilities are sorted in advance and everyone knows how they are going to contribute. Other times someone(s) is in charge (maybe they are hosting) and is hopefully doling out tasks to other people so that, as host, they don’t end up frazzled before the meal is served.
But if they aren’t dishing out tasks, then pitching-in is important.
Take a look around and figure out what might need doing. More often than not the following are helpful (though do check if in any doubt): washing up, drying up, putting clean things away; emptying and/or refilling the dishwasher; emptying bins; putting recycling out; and, perhaps most crucially, making sure the person in charge has got a drink to hand at all times!
As you did yesterday, notice what might be helpful and pitch-in. (Though maybe don’t pitch-in to the red wine quite as much?!)
